Frequently-Asked Questions
To better serve you, we've assembled a list of our customer's most frequently asked questions. If you don't find your answer here, please contact the office at your earliest convenience so that we can further assist you.
How could I have used this much water?
High water usage could be caused from a leaky toilet or faucet that is difficult to detect, or your irrigation valves may not be properly working thereby permitting water to continuously flow. For those customers with a pool, the auto-fill feature may be failing. To determine whether you have a leak first confirm that all water is off before looking at your meter. If the meter's leak detector is spinning you have a leak. Please refer to the Meter Reading tab under Customer Service for more information. As always, you can call the office for assistance with identifying your problem.
Why is my water discolored?
Homes with galvanized plumbing can experience corrosion inside the pipes over time which get released into the water. Hot water heaters can also experience a sediment build-up over time which will require a maintenance flushing. Other causes can include times when the water mains are flushed or repaired by District personnel. The milky appearance is typically caused by air being trapped in the water. Please contact the office if you have any concerns or need help in identifying why your water is discolored.
My water tastes, looks and smells funny. Is it safe to drink?
All public water systems are required to maintain a minimum chlorine level of 0.2 mg/L (tested at the end of each line) by state law. Our disinfectant levels are tested daily to ensure safety and are monitored continuously. Please call the office at your earliest convenience should you have any questions or concerns regarding the water quality. We are always happy to assist you.
What chemicals does the District add to the water?
Chlorine is added for disinfection. Also, polymers are used in the water treatment process. No fluoride is added to the drinking water. Chemicals used for the treatment of your drinking water are approved by the National Safety Foundation.
Why does debris come out of the faucet when running hot water?
Most likely your water heater needs to be flushed. CAUTION: Most manufacturers recommend hiring a professional to flush your water heater. If you plan on doing this yourself, read the owner's manual to keep from being hurt and or damaging the water heater.
I have a leak after the water meter...who is responsible for fixing the leak?
Any issue beyond the meter is the responsibility of the customer. The District is responsible for any issue related to the water service line prior to and including the water meter.
Why do I have a previous balance when I know I sent in my payment?
There is a good chance that your payment was either received after the due date or has yet to be received by the office. If using an on-line bill payment service through your bank, it is important to note that it can typically take up to ten business days before the payment is received at the District Office. It is recommended that you confirm the processing and mailing times with your financial institution. If you have any additional questions, please call the office so that we may be of further assistance.
